The size required depends on your heat requirements but the average home would only need 15 to 20kW to meet the needs of you central heating system and domestic hot water.
How much space will I need?
This depends on the type and size you decide upon. The boiler is usually around the same size as a standard oil or gas boiler but you will also need space for the auger and hopper. The hopper size varies according to your preference. The standard hopper size is 300kg but larger a hopper can be installed if the space is available.
Does it require a lot of maintenance?
Maintenance is easy due to the high efficiency of the boiler. The boiler produces only 1% ash when using pellets and should be removed every couple of weeks again depending on usage.
How often do I need to fill it?
Again this is dependant on size of hopper. The standard 300kg hopper needs to be filled approximately every 2-3 weeks and up to 3.5 tonne hopper every 5-6 months.
Where can I get the biomass fuel?
Pellets can be bought in bulk or in bagged form. Balcas from Enniskillen is the largest Irish manufacturer at present and supply bulk pellets direct to your home. Wood chip and cereals can be sourced from a local joiners or farm.
